Our Impact
Two Years of Real Progress
————————————
TeraMed launched at the Cairo Sustainable Energy Week in 2024 with a clear goal: rally the Mediterranean around 1 Terawatt of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
In two years, the initiative has grown from a regional proposal into a globally recognized platform, securing institutional endorsements, building cross-border partnerships, and placing the Mediterranean energy transition firmly on the international agenda.
Civil society organizations, think tanks, governments, and international institutions now stand behind a shared vision. The momentum is real, the partnerships are active, and the results are measurable.

From Vision to Global Recognition
———————————————-
In its first year, TeraMed built a strong presence across the world’s most important climate and energy forums — turning regional ambition into concrete international endorsements.
- May 2024: Presented at the UfM Mediterranean Green Week in Istanbul; secured UfM support and officially launched MATTCCh and MEDSEC.
- July 2024: Secured the Global Renewables Alliance endorsement at the GCEN Convening in Istanbul.
- July 2024: Presented to IRENA and UfM at a High-Level Meeting in Rome; IRENA committed to hosting a dedicated TeraMed session at COP29.
- September 2024: Presented at MEFED Thessaloniki, the Global Renewable Summit in New York, and DecarboMed in Tunis.
- October 2024: Officially launched the TeraMed Campaign at the Cairo Sustainable Energy Week.

COP30: A Platform for Real Action
———————————————-
At COP30 in Belém, Brazil, TeraMed took an active and visible role across the Blue Zone and partner pavilions, reinforcing its position as a convening platform linking policy, industry, civil society, and research.
We have:
- Co-facilitated more than eight strategic sessions on renewable deployment, cross-border governance, and citizen engagement.
- Partnered with IRENA, UfM, GRA, MEDCEN, RAED, and RCREEE across multiple high-level events.
- Mobilized a people-powered civil society campaign bringing together activists, youth, researchers, journalists, policymakers, and community leaders from across the Mediterranean.
- Presented TeraMed as a flagship Mediterranean initiative at the 24th Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention.
- Promoted the 1 Terawatt Mediterranean Declaration, driving collective regional ambition toward a shared political commitment.

A Milestone That Changes Everything
————————————
2025 marked a defining institutional breakthrough. TeraMed aligned with the Belém Declaration on Global Green Industrialization, led by the Government of Brazil with the support of UNIDO.
- Officially listed on NAZCA and the COP30 Global Climate Action Agenda.
- Recognized as a contributor to global green industrialization efforts.
- Positioned to translate COP commitments into actionable programs, investments, and partnerships ahead of COP31.
The Numbers Behind the Ambition
———————————————-
Reaching 1 TW delivers transformative benefits for the entire Mediterranean region:
- 600 million tons of CO₂ potentially avoided.
- $700 billion in investment opportunities.
- 3 million new jobs.
- 50% of industrial heat powered by clean energy.
- 28 million electric vehicles supported.
These outcomes are within reach, if the right networks, policies, and investments align. Our mission is to ensure it.
