About Us
Who We Are
—————–
TeraMed is a regional, bottom-up initiative that unites civil society, think tanks, the private sector, and international institutions around one bold goal: 1 Terawatt of installed renewable energy capacity across the Mediterranean by 2030.
The initiative stands on a core belief: the Mediterranean can lead the world in North-South climate cooperation.
The Mediterranean Clean Energy Network (MED-CEN) promotes TeraMed, and MATTCCh (the first Mediterranean Alliance of Think Tanks on Climate Change) provides expert support from both shores. IRENA, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), and the Global Renewables Alliance (GRA) all back the initiative, which holds flagship status in the UNEP-MAP Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development and a place on the NAZCA and COP30 Global Climate Action Agenda.
We are actively collaborating with the European Commission’s T-MED Initiative, the Italian Government’s Mattei Plan, and the German-led MEFED Forum, building on existing regional platforms to amplify collective ambition.

Our Vision
—————-
A Mediterranean region recognized as a global leader in renewable energy, where Northern and Southern Mediterranean countries work together to harness renewable resources, drive green industrialization, and build a prosperous, resilient, and climate-safe future for all people on both shores.
Our Mission
—————-
TeraMed seeks to enable and support a just energy transition in the Mediterranean through the rapid scaling up of renewable energy deployment.
The initiative is structured around four pillars:
- A common target for the Mediterranean region of 1 Terawatt (TW) of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030
- The co-creation of a data-driven pathway for scaling renewables across the region, building on multidisciplinary expertise from Southern Mediterranean and European organisations
- An inclusive and complementary approach, building on existing global and regional initiatives and partnerships, including through the UfM energy platforms, T-Med, MEFED, and national plans
- A focus on developing investible business cases for rapid scaling of renewables, building on complementary assets and capabilities between Europe and the Southern Mediterranean
Our Primary Goals
——————–
Support Mediterranean countries in embedding the 1 TW ambition into their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)

Advance diplomacy, joint planning, and investment coordination across both shores of the Mediterranean.

Promote permitting and regulatory reforms to accelerate the deployment of solar and wind energy.

Drive cross-border energy infrastructure to enable regional system integration.

Attract investments in green energy-intensive industries that leverage the region’s low-cost generation potential.

Coordinate public and private investment, involving all financial institutions, with inclusive governance that empowers local authorities, civil society, and marginalized groups.
Our Managerial Board
——————–
TeraMed is guided by a dedicated group of leaders from across the Mediterranean region — climate experts, energy policy practitioners, and civil society advocates who share a common conviction that a clean energy future for the Mediterranean is both essential and achievable.
